Saturday saw a match up between the only two teams in the Big 10 still unbeaten in conference play. Despite an early lead, Illinois couldn’t hold on and lost to No. 7 Michigan State 73-63 in East Lansing.
Coming off a last minute victory against Penn State, Illinois held the lead for most of the first half. However, the Spartans, led by Kalin Lucas, shook off a slow start and ended the first half with a 18-5 run, from which the Illini were unable to recover.
Michigan State (15-3, 5-0) hosts Iowa (7-11, 1-4) on Wednesday, while Illinois (12-6, 4-1) faces a tough Purdue team (14-2, 2-2) on Tuesday in Champaign.
